SB Music Ltd is a New Zealand owned and operated business run by Steven Booth and his partner Tracey Ashton.
SB Music was originally established in the UK over 20 years ago by Steven Booth. However after returning from a long holiday to New Zealand at the end of 2005, Steven and Tracey had fallen in love with New Zealand and developed a burning desire to return. It didn't take them long and in 2006 they were back! Shortly after arriving in New Zealand Steven was approached to take up the baton as Professional Conductor of The Trusts Waitakere Brass Band where he is still the man in the middle today.
Steven was born in Manchester in the heart of the brass band community in the North West of England. He started playing cornet at the age of eleven, later moving to euphonium and settling on baritone in 1986. A student at the world renowned University of Salford in Manchester, Steven graduated from his BA in Music with distinction. He has studied with the Childs brothers, Roy Newsome, David King and Goff Richards and had the pleasure of playing under conductors such as Richard Evans, David King, Roy Newsome, James Watson and Garry Cutt to name but a few.
He has been a member of various bands, including principle baritone of the world famous Black Dyke Mills, Leyland (formerly BNFL), Yorkshire Building Society, Faireys, Kennedys Swinton Concert Brass and an impressive list of achievements with those bands includes wins at the British Open Championships, the National Championships and the European Championships.
As a baritone soloist Steven has appeared all over the world and more recently became the Australian National Baritone Champion in 2008 and 2009 and has held the New Zealand National Baritone Champion title in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Tracey also born and raised in Manchester looks after the marketing side of the business and was instrumental in making this website a reality. With a background in business working for one of the worlds largest recruitment organisations for 8 years and her experience setting up her own business she was able to help get SB Music on the map in New Zealand as one of New Zealands leading brass sheet music suppliers.
Tracey doesnt play an instrument and pretty much fell into the world of brass when she met Steven. However six years on she has got to grips with the brass lingo and has become a fully fledged bandie after taking on the role of Recruitment and Marketing Manager for The Trusts Waitakere Brass Band which she has held for a number of years.
